Problems connecting to News Service

In the last couple of days our ISP service changed from MAX/128 to MAX/MAX speed. Since the change I cannot connect to the news service that I use. I thought at first that it happened when I changed to 0.4.6 so I went back to 0.4.5 and still the same. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Check your ISP's website to see if they changed anything.
Do they still have the service? Do they require a username/password now?
Did the server names chnage?

If you're on Windows, use one of the many other news readers to test.
Try Grabit for instance.

Otherwise open a command prompt (Windowsey-R cmd.exe).
and type this:

telnet server-name 119

and see if you get a greeting message from the server.

Hi shypike

Thanks for response. I should have posted more detail. I have since checked ISP as suggested and made one change to Modulation.

I am running Mac OS X 10.5.5 on Dual G5, Safari 3.1.2 and SABnzbd+ 0.4.5.

Situation now - I can connect to news server, speed starts to climb and then within 30 secs, drops to 2KB/s. I start getting timeout messages on threads. I do notice that early on in my download sessions, connection runs slower (100KB/s), but during latter half of session I can run up to 850KB/s. I have set up a download for tonight on both SSL and no SSL.

I will let you know what happens.

Hi shypike

Had problems with various ports on SSL and no SSL, but it settled down on SSL port 80. Looks like it is a contention issue on the network or a ISP shaping traffic. I will keep informed if it changes. I have now gone back to 0.4.6 and it is running at 850KB/s.

Thanks
