File name: A series of numbers and letters???

Dont know what is doing this but it is annoying. When SAB downloads a file it converts the name to lots of letters and digits. Any ideas?

That's entirely determined by the poster. SABnzbd doesn't make up names.

The name change is happening somewhere after the file downloaded, the file name is correct when it comes into SAB. Then somewhere between there and the end folder it is changed.

The name of the nzb insures the name of the directory for your download (in the complete folder).
The name(s) of the files in this directory are out of SAB's control. Look inside the .nzb file, there you will find the names of the files that this .nzb will download.
If you open the .nzb in SAB (so you see all the individual files), these are the same filenames as defined in the .nzb.
The par repair process could rename the filenames, but usually this is from a "kjsdfgd54f4g65dfgdkbjsdfg.rar" to a "This is a nice movie.rar" (from a unreadable name to a meaningfull name).

I am also seeing this happening quite frequently now. This has never been an issue (for me) before. SAB does the sorting, but PLEX has no idea what to do with the file after SAB puts it in the correct folder.
Any idea why posters all of a sudden use rubbish file names?
I am escpecially not enjoying cleaning up my wife's rubbish shows, like below : file name ends up being what is between the brackets.

Think: DMCA takedown request avoidance.

Better to avoid the takedown and rename than to loose them altogether, I guess. One solution guys, use nzbdrone with SAB, instead of using sickbeard with SAB. If that is your setup. nzbdrone does the renaming, and it works.

aaaah ... Thanks.
Anyway we could get a replaceable value during sorting that would make SAB rename the file name with the nzb file name?
So from my example above I would go from this
e838f39a4f6e0956d82ac54c3d3509172b31a801.mkv
to
V:\TV series\Glee\Season 5\Glee.S05E12.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION-RP.mkv

There is: %dn

Thanks, that did the job.
The pattern key lists like this
Code: Select all
Meaning Pattern Result
Original Foldername: %dn folder
so it wasn't obvious to me that this was the value I needed.
So I went from
( Processed Result : Show Name\Season 1\Original Filename.avi )
which gave me
V:\TV series\Glee\Season 5\e838f39a4f6e0956d82ac54c3d3509172b31a801.mkv
to
( Processed Result : Show Name\Season 1\Show Name S01E05 - Episode Name [DTS].avi )
which gives
V:\TV series\Glee\Season 5\Glee.S05E12.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION-RP.mkv
Excellent!!
Situation normal again

And where would I find this
%dn
to use to change my file names?
I looked through all config screen of SabNZBd and could not find those patterns.
Thanks, Merlin

It is part of Sabnzbd 2.3.2 in Config Sorting.
It is shown in the Pattern key for all Sorting options.
It is also one of the preset sorting options.

And Merlin here once more - because I just can't get this to work :-(
Here is what I did and what I get:
Enable TV Sorting checked
using the preset
%sn/S%0sE%0e - %en/%sn - S%0sE%0e - %en.%ext
but after completing the download I end up with a file
c0d6c738b5e6424a9b47368b1879c423 dot mkv
What am I doing wrong
