Is there a way to force sabnzbd to retry articles after it receives 430 errors.

430 means "article does not exist".
What's the purpose of asking again?

With my server, Supernews, retrying does retrieve some or all articles that got 430 errors on 100+ day posts.

That sounds like a problem with your server, then. As Shypike said, 430 is a missing article. SABnzbd shouldn't have to second-guess an error like that.

Of course it is a problem with Supernews... but the fix is easy: multiple retries.

I guess the answer to my question is no.

Yeah, I was using newsdemon.com because it was like $17 for supposed 200 day retention (They actually outsource US services to Highwinds Media) but I found myself a lot of connection errors and things that were 180 days old not being found. Switched to Giganews and all my issues have been resolved, although you do pay for it.

Newshosting is pretty good, been with them for a little over a year now, only one time I had problems and it was sorted within a day or two (loss of speed). It used to be 110 Days retention, but it is now at 160 days climbing for $14.95 (12 connections) or $19.95 (20 connections + SSL w/ 201 days retention) per month.

I've been getting files 20-30 days over retention without much issue as well. Pretty sure they're aiming for 250 days retention, might want to check them out, they also have cheaper prices if you lock in for 1 year or 6 months.

Yeah, gotta have that SSL.  ;D I dunno as much as I use it I ought to just cough up the money. I mean it saves me a cable/satellite and netflix bill.

I use XLned.

145 day retention at present, soon going to 220 day.

€6.99 (that's euro) for 10 connections with up to 20mb, unlimited & SSL, or €9.99 for 20 connections with up to 120mb, unlimited download & SSL.

Those prices beat anything else I've found by a long way.

We did not want to sound rude.
The problem is 430 must be really interpreted as "missing article".
Suppose we change this behaviour. We would soon get complaints from other people
asking why it now takes longer to skip files outside the retention period of the server.
Adding this as an option would make settings even more complex as they are now.

Another thing is that we do not want to support Usenet servers who do not stick to
the very well established rules of Usenet behaviour (RFC 3977).
The proper behaviour would be to not answer at all, but to rely on the timeout/retry of the client.

Please complain about this behaviour to Supernews.
