I wondered why sabnzbd (0.7.18) unrar files so slow in compare with e.g "the unarchiver" (unpacking tool) on OSX which uses the same unrar lib.
So I make some tests:
My system:
Mac Mini i5 2.5Ghz
OSX 10.9.4
8GB Ram
Samsung 830 SSD
Synology 1813+ DualCore 2.13 Atom 8 Bay NAS
transfer speed over Cat5e cable SSD->NAS = 120MB/s+
My sabnzbd configuration:
Running on MacMini
Temp path -> SSD
Complete path -> NAS
Speed (one 13.4GB big download with password):
original unrar (sabnzbd 0.7.18): 11:42sec
the unarchiver unrar: 5:20sec
newest unrar 5.11: 5:23sec
Thanks for the tip.
We upgrade unrar regularly, but of course their updates don't sync with ours
It seems they have finally cracked the problem of slow over-the-network unpacking.
0.7.19 and 0.7.20RC1 contain unrar 5.11
Should you want to upgrade beyond that, just find and replace unrar.exe within SABnzbd's program folder.
(Note that it comes with a 32bit and a 64bit version, make sure you don't mix them up.)
