Ubuntu "unusable rar file"

Post by Aeronnl »

Hey guys,

For some reason i keep getting this error every now and then on certain files.
When i download the file with another application like NzbVortex all is fine and the file gets unpacked properly.
I installed the latest version (0.7.18).
When i look in the comments of spotnet o.i.d the poster mentions that the file is packed with winrar 5.1, so is that the problem perhaps?
Any help would be highly appreciated! ;)

Could be, but 0.7.18 has a 5.x version included.
Does par2 verification succeed?

Well ... have you tried if it works with unrar 5.11 for Linux from http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm ?

PS: this is what it looks like on my Ubuntu ... so 'unrar' is pointing to unrar 5.11

Code: Select all

sander@flappie:~$ ll /usr/bin/unr*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root      9 sep  5 13:41 /usr/bin/unrar -> unrar5.11*

So, double-check: what is the output of:

Code: Select all

unrar --version | head -4
Post the output here

OK, that's good.

What if you run "unrar x *001.rar" (or something like that) in the directory containing the problematic rar files?

Sorry for my late response, it has been quite busy at work and stuff!
I have no really idea how to do this.

Today i ran into the same problem again with a nab for "Gomorra season 1".
Also, all the episodes of Under the dome (WEB-DL 1080p) have issues.

But like mentioned before, when i download them with NzbVortex on my mac it unpack just fine.
Drives me crazy...

Can you PM me a pointer to the NZB so that I can download myself?

OK, received the PM with the link to binsearch. My SAB had no problems downloading and unpacking the post. HOWEVER: all stuff was downloaded from a obscure newsserver I use, not from the 3 other mainstream servers.

So ... hypothesis: the post has been DMCA-ed from mainstream newsservers by *replacing* articles with fake articles, causing the problems you experience

Your hypothesis is not consistent with the claim that NzbVortex (Mac only) does process the download right.
The problem seems specific to the platform somehow.
Please forward the NZB to me.

Can the OP test the NZB on a Mac using SABnzbd?

I have just sent you the link to the nzb.
Also, i quickly installed Sabnzbd on my Mac, and it unpacks the file just file with no errors or whatsoever...
So it must be a platform specific issue indeed...

Are you sure SAB on Ubuntu is using the unrar version you showed, so unrar 5.11? Brute-force way to check:

Code: Select all

sudo updatedb
locate unrar | grep -e "/unrar$"
grep "unrar binary" ~/.sabnzbd/logs/sabnzbd.log
More than one line from the locate/grep command could be suspicious.
