Hi,
I have sickbeard and sabnzbd running on arch linux. Sabnzbd temp and completed folder are stored on my unraid server.
This all works well as long as the server is on, but obviously would fail if the server is asleep. I'd like to reduce my power consumption by putting my server to sleep when it's not being used. Is there any way I can send a magic packet to the server as soon as a download is added to the queue?
I know there is the functionality of pre-queue scripts, but can it be used to send a magic packet?
Thanks

Re: WOL before download starts
First of all, your temp folder shouldn't be on the server, that's asking for trouble.
Using it only as final destination is OK.
A pre-queue script could indeed be helpful, provided you can find a tool to send a WOL package.
The remaining risk is that download and repair take so long that the server falls asleep again.

Re: WOL before download starts
Thanks for answering.
The problem is that for big downloads, the flash card on my cubox is too small to be used as a temp folder. The temp folder on my server would be located on the cache drive, why would that be asking for trouble?
I could use wol to send the magic packet. What do you think?
About the download and repair time, I can include the condition that all disks should be spun down before the sleep script on my server kicks in.

Re: WOL before download starts
#wol ... have you tried? We can't guess or try from here.
But, above all, why don't you run SABnzbd on your unraid server itself?
