Sab not using backup server

Hi there I have a block account on a provider that should have the downloads I need (nextgen). Unfortunately I just had a failed download that is missing 453 articles and is 33 days old. When I checked sab I saw that the backup server had 0 bytes used today. So clearly sab is not using it even though the download is damaged. I have tested the download with only the backup server enabled and it finished extracting without any repairs.

My settings:

Code: Select all

[[news.sunnyusenet.com]]
username = x
enable = 1
name = news.sunnyusenet.com
fillserver = 0
connections = 12
ssl = 1
host = news.sunnyusenet.com
timeout = 120
password = x
optional = 0
port = 563
retention = 0
[[News.nextgennews.net]]
username = x
enable = 1
name = News.nextgennews.net
fillserver = 1
connections = 28
ssl = 1
host = News.nextgennews.net
timeout = 120
password = x
optional = 0
port = 563
retention = 0
Both test OK. Any thoughts on how to get sabnzbd to switch servers more pro-actively?

Whenever we test, the backup server is used.
You could try a Beta of 0.8.0, that uses a different method.
Wait until next weekend or so for Beta3.

Hi there!

Hmm, so I have noticed that this depends on the usenet service provider. I did a little test and my regular provider had about 450 missing on a 1.2 GB file. I opened 3 trial accounts and used the exact same setup with the optional fill server. The download failed on one (100 missing) and succeeded on the other two. However all 3 trial servers had a data usage of less than 1 MB. Meaning that they just send the complete download to my fill server. Although this saved me the trounble of re-downloading, this is not the behavior I was expecting. If I remember correctly software like newsbin pro used to let you use the good parts of such a download. Right???

Is this also different in sab 8?

SABnzbd tries all servers (primary, then backup) until it gets an article.
It works just like all the other Usenet programs.
