Unfortunately, not much to go on here. My SAB server is running OS X 10.9.5, betas 1-4 work great (thanks devs!)
I installed beta 5 in the normal way, by dragging to /Applications then double-clicking, and on launch I get a small window that shows "SABnzbd+ Error" and options to open Console to read logs, or Terminate.
system.log reads: SABnzbd[4221]: SABnzbd+ Error
sabnzbd.log is not appended
From Terminal, if I run sudo open (path)/SABnzbd.app, it displays the Mac OS X gatekeeper prompt (do you want to open this potentially-dangerous app or something to that effect), in which I click open and am returned to the non-descript error. Subsequent sudo open runs don't need gatekeeper but it still fails.
So, I tested on another computer, this time running OS X 10.11.2 - same results exactly. If I completely purge a previously-existing ~/Application Support/SABnzbd/ it doesn't re-populate, so it's crashing even before it touches these files.
For now I simply reverted to beta 4 and it runs just fine. Just thought I'd report this error, since I couldn't find any other report of this.

Re: 0.8.0b5 Error on launch, OS X
OK, this was completely my mistake. I failed to use the corresponding Mavericks or Yosemite (for El Capitan) versions from the corresponding folders in the installer disk image. That was... dumb.
So, nevermind. I shouldn't try to update stuff after a long week and a big dinner.

Re: 0.8.0b5 Error on launch, OS X
Same for beta 4 end beta 5 on el Captain
Re: 0.8.0b5 Error on launch, OS X
Please pick the right SABnzbd version for the right OS version.
SABnzbd-Mavericks will work on all three OS (with some minor functionality gone on Yosemite and El Capitan).
SABnzbd-ElCapitan will only work on El Capitan.

In case it helps, what I found to work:matthieugoua wrote:Same for beta 4 end beta 5 on el Captain
1. Open SABnzbd-0.8.0Beta5-osx.dmg
2. DON'T drag the obvious icon into Applications (despite it saying it works in OS X 10.8-10.10)
3. Look on the left, there are folders for Mavericks and Yosemite, use the appropriate version from these folders
I noticed some differences with the beta4 and beta5 installers:
The beta4 installer makes a lot more sense, where the icon in the root of the .dmg is marked for use with Mountain Lion through Yosemite (10.8-10.10) and on the left there are folders for Lion and El Capitan (10.7 and 10.11 respectively).
The dmg for beta5, on the other hand, shows the same compatibility for the App at the root of the .dmg, when in fact it didn't work for me under Mavericks or El Cap -- maybe there's a real bug there. Strangely, on the left side of the Beta5 installer dmg, the folders read:
Yosemite
Mavericks
... which follows no logic since both of these OS's should be accounted for with the App at the root. However, this app doesn't run at all for 10.9 or 10.11, whereas when I use the Mavericks or Yosemite versions both work. I think the developer who packaged beta5 got mixed up and perhaps put the Lion version at the root (a guess, I don't have a Lion machine to test). In any case, the beta4 Mac installer made a lot more sense
Now that I've had a closer look, I feel less stupid.
BTW, the update prompt in the web GUI is handy, that's a feature I really like. Thanks!
Re: 0.8.0b5 Error on launch, OS X
We've had a lot of problems with preparing the DMG.
OSX makes life much more difficult then necessary.
What looks OK on El Capitan, looks quite different on the other systems.
I'll check again.

It doesn't say that. The main screen says "for El Capitan only".
Now it is possible that OSX plays tricks and shows older background images on other systems.
Folder background are very hard to properly control, or so it seems.
The main folder is for El Capitan, the others for Yosemite and Mavericks.
That's all we support now.
Making something that works on all three OSX versions is not possible without giving up on several features.
(Like better security when using SSL and HTTPS, works only properly on El Capitan).

You're right. I was trying to compare beta4 vs beta5 dmg's at the time, must have been looking at the older one.
Agreed on Apple making things difficult. I've been working with Macs in IT for a long time now (beginning at Apple), and it's been getting less and less friendly to those who package and deploy software. Your work is appreciated!
