API functionality and web session

Post by poutine »

Two big peeves with this software.

  1. It requires the admin username and password to use the API. DUH that's why we have the API key, so we don't need to be storing those details anywhere, no other place that provides an API requires username, password, AND API key, please, show me one single other service that does. All Google APIs, digg apis, reddit APIs, NZBmatrix, etc all require an API key, and not a single other one requires both username and PASSWORD.

  2. admin login timeout. Is there a reason we don't have a "remember me" checkbox for the frontend? The expiration of a session is wacky, 99% of sites (excluding things like banks) allow your session to persist for the length of the browser being open. Is there a technical reason sabnzbd doesn't support this?

Other than that, it's bloody great software. Keep it up.

Both issues will be fixed once version 0.5 is released. There is no solid timetable for that release however.

Thanks for the quick reply on this.  I'm new w/ API's and I appreciate the two great points made above and the responsiveness of the dev team.

I'm sure you can get a full refund for your software purchase... Oh wait...

Might want to adjust your tone just a tad.
