As of beta .5 I am seeing the same blocking behavior in older versions (unreliable nntp servers causing all downloads to stall). If there is any additional info I can give to help, I'd be more than willing.

Did you try to set the unreliable ones to "optional" ?
This is required to prevent blocking.

Tried it at your recommendation and it still happens unfortunately. Like I mentioned before, it didn't happen in beta .4 and earlier (at least as far as I could tell). Are there plans to make the app more tolerant of flaky servers with its default behavior? It would be nice if it would just use whatever servers were available at any given time without having to babysit it to see if any have gone offline.

The server connection problems are currently under investigation
and we may have found a potential issue.
Please be patient and go back to Beta4 if Beta5 doesn't work for you.

Actually, as far I  can tell, the Beta's before 5 were worse at handling unreliable servers.
