If you are currently using tvnzb, there is no point reportin

Post by Loccy »

I've said this in another thread, but I think it's got lost among other conversations. So, I'll start a new thread in the hope it'll help others out:

Anyone using tvnzb should expect problems. It's an abandoned and dying site. The admin hasn't been heard from in months and there are infrastructural problems with the site that the forum moderators can't do anything about.

Read this thread:

http://www.tvnzb.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 3&start=15
(if you're lucky enough to get it at a moment where the site is running)

Basically, there's an ongoing problem with the database that means that, after 50,000 hits, the entire site falls over. This means that if you browse to the front page, you get:

Image

and if you try to get the RSS feed, you'll get an empty feed. At this point, if SABnzbd tries to download the NZB, instead it'll get a file that contains the text "invalid NZB id X" where X is the NZB number.

There is no logic or predictability as to when this will occur, and the site stays "down" for an indeterminate time.

The forum moderators and site users have a solution, but they can't apply it because none of them have administrative privileges on the server. None of them know when the admin will (if ever) turn up again.

So, if you're logging on to report a problem with SABnzbd stalling on NZBs sourced through RSS via tvnzb, there's little that can be done by the devs on here. Try a different NZB indexing site.

That really sucks because i use http://www.mytvnzbrss.com/ and that makes my life so much easier... Is there anything like that out there that i can use or do i just have to make a rss feed as long as my arm to get all my shows

Yes, me too, and it does suck balls. I've switched to nzbmatrix but it does mean that I do indeed have an rss feed as long as my arm, and I also get multiple releases of the same episode.  But it's better than nothing and now that nzbmatrix have sorted out their timeout issues, it's much more reliable than the ailing tvnzb.

I've turned to http://nzbs.org/ They have a great working automated RSS that I've hooked up to yahoo pipes.
If you wanna know how that's done, PM me.

Just a quick note for people looking for a tvnzb replacement. I recentely build http://medianzb.com which offers custom feeds for newsreaders (including sabnzbd which I also use). I also started missing tvnzb. It's basically the same as the mytvnzb script, except that the episodes-nzbs are fetched automatically from nzbmatrix.com. It uses some filtering and such to prevent double episodes. As user of medianzb.com you don't need a nzbmatrix API key.

The quality of nzbfiles is good, almost none point to passwordprotected files.
