Fluctuating Speed & Incomplete Files

Post by Lowlight »

Hi, nice site you've got here.

SAB: 0.5.3 RC1
O/S: Win 7
Windows Installer
Skin: Plush
Firewall: None

SAB has been working fine for months.

1st problem regards incomplete files. Over the last week or so using 0.5.2 & 0.5.3 RC1 I've been grabbing a lot of incomplete files, I thought this was maybe a News Provider problem but I tried the same NZB's using another client and they downloaded fine. Doesn't happen with every NZB, around 50% though.

2nd problem regards the fluctuating speeds. Usually with SAB I'll get a steady 1200kB/s. This is now peaking at 1200 for a few seconds then dropping to 150-500. Again this isn't happening on other clients/readers.

Great program you've got and I really hope I can get this problem sorted out.

Thanks.

Do you get any "missing article" warnings?
Do you use the exact same NZB's for the clients?
When the downloads are very young, downloading later may solve the problem
(which might explain the difference between clients).
Do you use a specific software firewall? (check the file ISSUES.txt in SABnzbd's program folder).
Do you use the article cache?

I've had  a couple of missing article warnings but mostly it's ">> Repair failed, not enough repair blocks"
Definitely the same NZB. I really made sure of that.
Ages of NZB's have varied from minutes to hundreds of days.
No firewall and no changes to any security at all.
I don't use the article cache.

I don't know if by pure coincidence my provider has just had an outage but anything over a few days is now showing the "missing article" errors.

Thanks for your help by the way, totally forgot to say that.

Reinstalled again. Speeds levelling out around 1140kB/s on SSL so I'm happy with that. Think my provider is having probs with their EU servers too.

No errors so far.

Thanks again for your time and help.

Re-installing not necessary.
Sometimes queue data can get corrupt.
In that case start once with the --clean parameter
"c:\program files\SABnzbd\SABnzbd.exe" --clean
to remove the data (and your download queue).

Using an article cache will lower the load on the hard disk.
Very worthwhile when you have enough memory.
(90M is a good value, about 30% larger than the average RAR file).

Started with clean parameter and set the article cache to 90MB.

Thanks a lot for the help. Seem to be back in action now.
