Accessing Sabnzbd remotely

Running sab on a Win 7 box. Works just fine locally. Trying to set it up to access remotely from within and outside of the network. I've forwarded port 8080 from my router (Apple : Time Capsule), added sab to the exclusions list in Win 7 for public and private (local) access. I've also changed the host settings in sab from "localhost" to 0.0.0.0. (NOTE: making this change broke sab – i could no longer access it with local host, the IP address, nothing).

I tried getting help via live chat and one thing we noticed (guy had to leave and couldn't help anymore) is that I also couldn't access the Win 7 box via telnet either. So it may be a networking issue.

Any help is greatly appreciated - I've been trying all week and I'm determined to get this thing working!

Try setting it to the IP of your windows 7 PC
And also check if your PC is not running a firewall

To get access outside my house all i did was:

left sabnzbd host at 0.0.0.0
and sabnzbd port at 8080

created a websever username and password

forwarded port 8080 on my router to the ip of the computer (make sure its a static ip) running sab, from any pc anywhere type my ip (of my internet) followed by :8080 in the address bar and it should ask for ur login details

Hope this helps.

Thanks a mil for responding...

Well, I made some progress. I'm now able to access internally (still not externally). I have the option to use https turned on, so I guess the reason it wasn't working before is i was trying http and 8080. When I use https and 9090 it lets me login from within the network from any machine and the iPhone/iPad app. I still have host set at 0.0.0.0 and when I use https://10.0.*.*:9090/ from any browser on the lan, it works fine. I can't get outside access though. I've used my internet IP address (not the internal 10.0.**) and it times out every time.

I do have a firewall running, but I've allowed access to sabnzb by both public and private.

WHOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!! I got it!!!!!!

And I really don't know what, if anything I did differently – so maybe I just got lucky. I'm going to go into a little detail about what my set up is here so if another person in my same situation needs some help, this will show up via search.

I have SABnzbd running on a Windows 7 machine in a Mac / Windows environment. I'm also using the app mynzb on the iPhone and iPad.

My router is a Time capsule and I forwarded the ports 8080 to the INTERNAL ip address of the windows machine (10.0 or 192.168, etc.). (If you need to know how to do this check out http://must-know-mac.blogspot.com/2008/ ... psule.html

SABnzbd is set up to host 0.0.0.0

I do use a username and password which was set up originally in sabnzbd.

To access sab from within or without the network I use http://[internet (not lan) ip address]:8080/ and it's working on all devices.

Thanks so much for the help guys.

And you told your router to redirect ports 8080 and 9090 the PC running SABnzbd?

I only forwarded port 8080 from my router. I never forwarded port 9090. This may explain why the IP + 9090 only seems to work from within the network. If I use the IP + 8080 it works internally and externally. Guess I should add a port forwarding entry for 9090 as well. I'll try that later and report back.

Hey Guys,

I'm so happy!  I was just about to post and ask for help on remotely accessing sabnzb, but it suddenly dawned on me, i had part read another post and remember reading - test it from outside your lan.  There was me typing oin my dyndns host on my lan trying to connect to sab, could not figure it out!

Opened up my laptop, connected to internet via dongle, typed in the dyndns hostname followed by :port and bang! up comes the username and password request!

Woohooo! I love sab! And there I was for god knows how long using newsleecher......errrrghh the thought of it! Although the supersearch feature is pretty cool.

Well I hope if anyone else is racking their brains and having the same problem thats the solution, iphone users, turn off ur wifi connection if ur at home, use 3g and it will work if you have followed everybodys advice!!!
