Is it this that's slow?

I do a speed test with flashget and I'm getting 2000kbps downloading http://ftp.ticklers.org/releases.ubuntu ... -amd64.iso

Then I try to download a random file off of giganews through sabnzbd+ and I get 1100kbps. Is there any way I can speed it up or find out what's wrong?

Try using more connections, my provider gives me 1950kps form the max possible 2000kps with sab.

I'm already using all 10. even says so in the server options in sab.

Are you using SSL? SSL in SAB versus using GigaNews Accelerator seems quite a lot slower.

I'm using giganews accelerator but no SSL, maybe I should try it without the accelerator..

Slow compared to what?
What's the performance using another usenet tool?
Is GigaNews the bottleneck?
Does your ISP do throttling of Usenet (and/or bittorrent).

My ISP (PlusNet) throttle Usenet heavily in the evenings.  And it doesn't seem to be done by port, it's done by IP address of the provider.  You could try downloading something in the early hours of the morning (possibly by the scheduler) to see if you get better throughput then.
