Installing SABNZBd on a Lacie Network Space 2 NAS

Post by m1mi.dan0s »

I've been browsing the web for a couple of days now, trying to find a way to install sabNZBd on my NAS - Lacie Network Space 2 NAS. As far as I know the OS is Linux-based, which means it should be possible to install sabNZBd on it. A guy named tony claims (in the dutch part of this forum) that he has it installed, only thing is he's not reacting to my message. :( I've been trying to figure something out myself, but I'm not much of a 'command-line'-person.  :-[

Does anyone else own this NAS and did they get it to work? Or is anyone able to figure it out anyway? It would be of great help.

Thnx in advance!

Looking at Tony's post:
Ik heb een lacie network space 2 aangeschaft en heb SABnzbd erop geinstalleerd, downloaden gaat goed maar alleen als computer aanstaat.
Ia er een mogelijkheid/instelling die het mogelijk maakt alleen vanaf NAS te downloaden, dus als de computer uitstaat?
I don't think he actually installed SABnzbd on the NAS as it only works if his computer is on. I think he installed SABnzbd on his computer, and is downloading to his NAS.

First step for you: find if there is an open / homebrew firmware for your NAS... Good news: http://www.lacie.com/more/?id=10095 shows the source code of the Lacie firmware (?), so maybe someone has taken up this task...
Second step: can it run python, and then SABnzbd? SABnzbd needs about 256 MB of RAM, which is a lot for an embedded device like a NAS. If your NAS has less RAM, maybe another, less memory-hungry NZB would work for you.

Yeah well, I've been browsing the web trying to find anything that makes it possible to install an NZB-client on Lacie's NAS-drives. And nothing. For people that want to use NZB's with their NAS, I don't think Lacie is the manufacturer they should be doing business with. I put it for sale and I'm thinking to buy a Buffalo Linkstation Live LS-CHL 1TB, that looks like a good alternative. What do you guys think? Anybody that has it, and wants to share their experiences?
