Downloading random file sizes

This has been going on for a while, i'm not sure why to be honest and i've tried to troubleshoot a few times but still not entirely sure.
Basically 30% of all my downloads crap themselves and fall SUPER short of the required block to repair by a fair whack. I use NZBmatrix so the source is fine, i'm with Astraweb but the problem that people associate with it is just CRC errors.
I can download the SAME NZB though and get a completely different resulting filesize, so .rar might be 10mb for the first download and then anywhere between 8-12mb next time I try.
It is such a weird inconsistency and I have no idea why, I use the SSL servers but that seems like it shouldn't be an issue. I've tried cache settings and everything.
I'm not sure what information I should provide to help figure this out but it is starting to bug the hell outta me. Having to hunt for the specific nzb and manually download all the time for like 12gb files is a right pain in the ass.
Anyone have ANY ideas whatsoever? I don't have any post processing scripts and it is set to +Delete, the server port is 563. Maybe the SSL type? Can't find any information regarding that though.
Currently my cache is set at 300M (I have ram to spare) but before I wasn't using it at all, so that setting didn't change much. Recently added sickbeard/couchpotato but the problems existed BEFORE them. Acutally paid for NZBmatrix VIP because I thought that would help (Doesn't matter, because after paying even though I still have the same problem it is bloody worth the money).
Eh, other relevant stuff. I get a LOT of 'missing article' errors randomly.
I used to split downloads between the three available astraweb servers, ssl-us ssl-eu and just ssl. Changed that to just use one, same problem.
Hm... maybe port change? Doesn't make much sense to me though
