Guidance and clarification

Post by kcallis »

Maybe I am not getting it... On the otherhand, maybe I am getting it, but not understanding what to do. I made the move from torrent leaching awhile ago to trying to make my way via Usenet (ah, I remember when access was free!  :D). I started off using PAN (I am a Linux person), then moved to hellanzb/hellavcr. Although hellavcr would show me when the next TV was showing, I could never seem to get it to pull down the latest episode of foo.

I then ran across SABnzbd+, and after a little creativity in getting it working, suddenly, I saw my first TV show. Again, this wasn't through the magic of hellaVCR, but my going to my indexer (and I use both NZBMatrix as well as Newzbin) and used the SABnzbd+ option to pull down the nzb. Of course, somewhere, I thought all of this stuff would have all of this stuff working automagically. I thought that after I had configured hellaVCR to use SABnzbd+, that I could add my shows and it would automatically pull down my shows. I didn't think I would have to fat finger the machine so much. The other issues was the placement of directories onto my media server (XBMC) so that it could be indexed and ready to play when I came home.

So where am I going wrong or did I just misunderstand how all of this works? Does hellaVCR really automatically pull down the episodes? For that matter, does the all episodes feature work? Is hellaVCR even the tool I should be using? Then of course, what is the secret to actually pulling down the episode and then filing it in the appropriate directory (it is all on the same machine, I just need completed episodes to actually be moved to the proper directories that are scanned my XBMC) and indexed?

Would someone give me the proper pointers that I can get this working the way it should? Thanks!

Close. Look at Sickbeard instead. Sickbeard was created because the author wasn't satisfied with hellaVCR. Sickbeard is now basically the defacto standard for what you're trying to do.

Alright, I got sickbeard going... So how do I add a show??? I am assuming that I go to SABnzbd+, and add an episode, and it will be passed off to sickbeard. I am lost on how to set things up to automatically pull down episodes. I see in sickbeard the add shows, but is seems to be looking for a directory... I am looking to do something like hellavcr, that I just add the shows and it will automatically pull down the shows. I also don't understand how to automatically pull down a full season. Say for instance, that I decided that I want to add "The Big Bang Theory"... I have the first two seasons, but I don't have Season Three and the couple of new episodes of Season 4. How does one do that using sickbeard?

The problem with Sickbeard (as I see it) is that when adding a show, you must point Sickbeard to the show directory first.
IE D:\TV\Show_name
SickBeard will then take Show_name and look it up (on TVrage I think) and offer you options for shows if it finds any.
It will then get all the show information for all the seasons.
Once it's done that, if there are any past seasons or episodes you want, you just tell Sickbeard.
Eejit - The name say's it all !!
