Hey guys,
I'm having problems with my download speed. At first I was not able to get my speed over 8MB/s.
I just read the speedtips and set the article cache to 120M.
Speed is now up to 10MB/s. Switching off my firewall did not make any changes. Neither did changing the ports or servers. Also tried using more or less connections, no effect.
When I download something using firefox I get perfect speed, Up to 14 MB/s.
I have some friends that also use astraweb and they do not have any problems.
I'm pretty much lost here so I hope you can help.
Thanks in advance,
Florentyn

What makes you think Astraweb gives you this speed?
The actual performance is determined by many factors, of which SABnzbd itself is only one.

When are you downloading? I've seen people complain that speeds on Astraweb take a dive starting at around 7PM ET.

@shypike: My friends have the same astraweb account, ISP and use SABnzbd. Since they do not have problems, I would expect no problems for my aswell. I've gone over a lot of things trying to figure it out. Since I can actually download on full speed if I download something trough firefox, I thought there might be something I had missed in my SABnzbd settings or something else I should change.
@inpheaux: I live in Holland and have been getting these speeds throughout the day. On all servers. I normally use the eu-ssl server.
BTW thanks for your fast replies

Problem was with Astraweb. Got it sorted out after testing a gazillion different ports and servers. Thanks for the help

For some reason the ssl connections where slow. Now I'm using the non ssl european servers.
Speed was around 8MB/s now its in between 10 and 13.

SSL means overhead on the server side, but also some on the SABnzbd side.

well, making those changes made no difference to my speeds

I have also tried both Astraweb and Supernews and tried regular and SSL connections but I can't seem to get any speed higher then 1.5MBs?
Shouldn't I be getting closer to 3.1MBps less the overhead?

The speed is unlikely to reach 3.1MBytes/sec when you have a 25Mbit/sec link.
Does your ISP actually deliver this speed?
How fast is your system? SABnzbd isn't the fastest program, but even with
a decent Atom CPU you should be able to get upto 5MBytes/sec.
Make sure you have the article cache enabled, otherwise your disk will be a limiting factor.

Yes my ISP connection is 25Mbsp (megabits) and I have confirmed using SpeedTest.net
My System: ZBOXHD ID11 w 2GB RAM (
http://goo.gl/eIrF )
OS on: Internal 30GB SSD
Download Directory on: External 7400RPM 2TB eSata HD
Article Cache: 256M
I should be getting 5.0MBps (megabytes)?? Are my calculations wrong? I was using Google and it says 25Mbps (megabits) == 3.12500 MBps (megabytes)
Eg. 1 Mbps = 0.125 MBps
UPDATE - Weird... Over at DSLReports.com I'm only getting 16Mbps

Many ISP's fool you by tricks as "boost".
I.e. they give you high speeds for short periods on new
channels and drop the speed later.
Usenet connections happen to be open for long times, unlike HTTP connections.
I suggest you try another Usenet client to test whether SABnzbd is the problem or not.
