Dell Optiplex FX160 Thin Client

Post by shalarim »

I am looking at getting an atom based nettop to host sabnzb. I have found a site selling of end of life and excess order Dell hardware, on there they are selling Dell Optiplex FX160 for around £100. The system is designed as a thin client so I was hoping to get some assurances that I will be able to install Ubuntu and sabnzb. Has anyone had any experience with these boxes?

Which OS does it run, XP?
If it runs an embedded version of Windows, you might have problems installing your own software.
Where's the hard disk, will it be an external USB drive?
In that case performance can be an issue.
Other than that, the CPU and RAM are sufficient to download with a speed of about 5Mbyte/sec.
Par2 repair and unrar will be quite slow (also due to the external USB drive).
