Dev,

is it possible to start working with multipar? I installed multipar a while ago ans came to the conclusion that it repairs alot quicker than par2.exe
Maybe an option for the beta 3 version of SABnzbd?

Keep up the good work!

No clue!

Would you like to do some benchmarking for us?

Edit: Major requirement for SABnzbd is that we must have a CLI option.

CLI options:

Code: Select all

Usage
c(reate) [f,fu,r,n,p,m,c,d,in,u] <par file> [input files]
v(erify) [  d,i,u,b] <par file>
r(epair) [m,d,i,u,b] <par file>
l(ist)   [u,h] <par file>

Option
 /f    : Use file-list instead of files
 /fu   : Use file-list which is encoded with UTF-8
 /r<n> : Rate of redundancy (%)
/n<n> : Number of parity volumes
/p<n> : First parity volume number
 /m<n> : Memory usage
 /c"*" : Set comment
/d"*" : Set directory of input files
 /i    : Recreate index file
/in   : Do not create index file
/u    : Console output is encoded with UTF-8
/b    : Backup existing files before repair
/h    : List hash value of input files
Benchmark is on the way

[Removed due to innaccuracy]

So the executables included in the archive are not just par2 :) I thought that they just referenced that.

Hi Joao.
I'm not sure which multipar you are referring to.
Could you leave a link to it's website?
I'm curious if it's a only-windows tool or if it's also available for *nix.
Cheers

bump
any chance this is going to happen?
Because multipar is much more reliable and faster than par2cmdline even when using it via wine.

The speed might be true, but do you have anything to backup your reliability claim?
The Windows and OSX distributions already have alternative par2 programs.
By my experience the classic par2cmdline is the most reliable one, but also the slowest.

Please replace par2 with multipar so we can use par3 files.
In the past two weeks I downloaded multiple files wich had *.pa3 files.
Only with multi-par I was able to use them.

I found a poster "ikbenhetmaar" with a lot of pa3 posts: DVD's with the usual rar files, and then pa3 files (instead of par files).

I created an NZB, and downloaded it without problems: apparently all rars were available.

So I edited the .NZB file and removed a few lines from the .rar parts. Downloading that NZB resulted in "Unpacking failed, CRC error", and no rar or pa3 files; just an attempt by SAB to create the real files. Strange. Or is my method wrong? EDIT: Oh, I found some stuff in 'tempie'... TBC

I will now only download the crippled NZB and see if I can manually repair it. If so, maybe a pa3-postprocessing script would be a workaround for the time being?

People uploading with par3 files are fools.
Multipar is Windows-only.
I'm not sure it's a good idea to start supporting non-standard methods.

I couldn't agree more with that, maybe there could be a mechanism in wich SAB ignores par3-files or cancels the download?

Cool ... with more and more developers on OSX and Linux, more and more software is available for OSX and Linux. And not because a certain sales or product manager has decided so, but just because of the developers that want to develop on their own platform and use their own products.
