Slow downloads

Hi,

Current system is E8500 dual core processor, 8GB RAM, running FreeNAS. SABnbzd version is 0.6.7 (was same story with 0.6.6).
Seems very adequate for downloads, but sometimes I seem to get my full speed (around 5.6MB/s), but the last few downloads are barely hitting 1MB/s. The system resources are virtually idle:

Code: Select all

last pid: 55910; load averages: 0.06, 0.06, 0.07 up 2+18:10:07 12:46:32

No errors in sabnzbd.log.
I've tried setting the cache to various different values, from -1 to 512M, but still slow.

Any clues please?

Many thanks for reading.

You expect me to say something clever with so little info?
How large is your queue, what's the average job size.
Is there a correlation between the age of the NZB and the speed?
Which Usenet provider do you use?

Hiya,

Sorry, of course, queue is just 3 jobs, two are around 11GB, one is 13GB.
Usenet provider is supernews (downloads are always fast with Newsbin pro on Windows).

One is 227 days old.
Another is 442 days old.
Final one is 119 days old.
I've switched the order around between these particular ones, but downloads still sticking around 1MB/s

I've just added another one to the queue (3GB), and pushed it to the top of the queue- still same download rate, also added another much smaller (500MB) nzb (14 hours old), but same download speed.

Many thanks for your time.

Weird, I use Supernews all the time.
Are you in the US or Europe? Last week someone from the US reported better
results using the European severs (also weird)
How many connections do you have?
Are you you sure you did not set a speed limit?

Hi,

I'm in Europe, tried both regular news.supernews.com and news.eu.supernews.com, and both SSL and non-SSL connections. I use 20 connections regularly, I've double checked my speed limit, definitely not set.

Very baffled! In an attempt to rule out the provider as an issue I did sign up for another usenet provider, but that did not have any impact on the speed- exactly the same.

Just to test, I just kicked off a Newsbin pro download, 5.6MB/s all the way, very weird!

20 isn't really necessary with Supernews, you might try with less connections.
As a last ditch you could stop SABnzbd, remove all files in the admin folder,
and restart SABnzbd.
Then go to the Status page a do a queue recover.

Thanks for all your help so far, I've tried all these, with no effect.
The strangest thing is that some of my downloads last night did download at the full speed, whilst the rest have been downloading at a max of 1 MB/s.

Guess I'll have to live with it.
