howto add password protected rss feeds

it is possible to add an rss feed which requires a username password by incorporating them into the url.
Warning!
This transmits your username and password in the clear. It is no different than logging into a website via http (instead of https) and as such should be avoided in situations where there is a risk, such as on a public access point (although why you are using a public access point for usenet access raises other questions

the format is
http://username:[email protected]
if the username or password is your email address then exchange the @ in the email for %40 and it should work but ymmv
i have an easynews account just for the global search and i can add rss feeds of nzb searches using this method (i get more control of search criteria than with nzbindex.)
